Bell Canada launches innovative new home monitoring service
Wireless and Internet-based solution delivers the next generation in home security

TORONTO, January 31, 2007 – Bell Canada today announced the availability of Home Monitoring, an innovative new service that leverages high-speed mobile wireless and Internet services from Bell to deliver an easy-to-use and fully customizable home monitoring and security solution.

“Home Monitoring from Bell is a completely wireless solution enabling homeowners to stay informed in real-time about the status of their loved ones and their home,” said Jeff Crews, Vice President and General Manager, Bell Monitoring Services. “Home Monitoring from Bell offers enhanced and individually customizable capabilities, completely controlled by the homeowner through a secure personalized Web site. It’s the first of its kind in Canada.”

Home Monitoring from Bell is simple to install and easy to use. Clients can go online from anywhere they have Internet access and customize their service by deciding what they want to be alerted about, who should receive alerts, and how – whether by phone, e-mail or text message. In addition to self-monitoring, clients can also opt for round-the-clock monitoring by dedicated professionals.

Home Monitoring from Bell offers a broad range of capabilities, including:

• Know when the kids are home safely from school: Clients can receive an alert at work to let them know when their son or daughter turns the system off using a personal PIN.
• Support independent living: With Safe at Home service, Home Monitoring from Bell can keep track of normal movement within the home. For example, a client can be notified if an elderly parent is not following their normal routine by a specified time in the morning.
• Be alerted to unexpected entry: Clients can choose to receive alerts or have alerts sent to designated contacts, such as family, friends or neighbours. Or they can elect to have the Bell Professional Monitoring centre monitor their home on their behalf.
• Avoid hazards and costly damage from events such as flooding or fire: With home safety devices such as water and smoke detectors clients will quickly be alerted to potential hazards at home even when they aren’t there.
• Remotely monitor a cottage or rental property: Clients can use remote management capabilities to know when a second property is vacant or occupied, to arm and disarm the system and be alerted about issues that need attention.
• Track the home repair person, realtor or dog walker: Clients can easily grant temporary access and stay informed when someone comes and goes from their home.
• Video monitoring: Home Monitoring has optional video capability that allows clients to access a live video stream from their personal Web site or have images pushed to them by e-mail or to a cell phone when an alert occurs.

Home Monitoring from Bell starts at $19.95 per month, while a Home Monitoring Starter Kit – consisting of a base unit, two door/window sensors, a motion detector and a remote keypad – costs $299.99. Additional hardware and services can be purchased separately.
